I got my disk system today and it came with a paper/cardboard disk stuck in it for transportation.  I never have seen this or heard of it before.  How come no one ever talks about it, or maybe they do I don't know.  I thought it was funny cause it was in Japanese but still had English on it too.  It says its to protect the disk head for transportation.  I thought it was kinda cool that it came with it.  I assume it was with it new, am I correct in my assumption?

Any recommendations on games for the FDS?  I bought Super Mario Bros. 2, Kid Icarus, and Castlevania.  I still really want Metroid just for the saving aspect, Zelda because I have all the North American releases.  I would love Kaettakita (sp?) Mario Bros, and All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros., but the price is way out there.  Also Doki Doki Panic but that seems like it goes for more than most disk games and I see so many games that are new for like $20USD yet I always see that for closer to 100$ whats up with that?

Seems like since I started that I noticed the Fami games are priced by popularity and not rarity.  Unlike the NES.

That cardboard insert sounds cool. Since I only have a used console without it, my guess would be that they all came with one when new, or these inserts were sent back to consumers whom had submitted units for repair.

As for games, it all depends what genres you dig. Besides what you already mentioned, the FDS Konami exclusives such as Ai Senshi Nicol & Almana no Kiseki are pretty good.
I wouldn't say that Doki Doki Panic is that rare, but US gamers seem mystified by the history and thus the prices get inflated.
When it comes to all night Nippon, your only option if you aren't eager to sell your car is to hunt down a pirate or have someone do a re-write service for ya'. ;)

Ericj, Xious, and I all do rewrite services. I dont think Xious can as of now because of the situation he's in. Message me if you want a rewrite done for any fds game.

Cool thanks guys I will check those games out. In reference to the rewrite service I had already talked to Eric about it.

It's a cool piece of hardware but if you're looking to save money you can always buy the NES powerpak.  The NES powerpak comes with a non-working fds mapper file but I found a website where you can download a fds mapper that actually works.

Yes!  Are you able to share the website URL here?

What happens when you need to flip sides? The powerpak site says that only single sided disks are supported.

You've mis-read that part about the PowerPak. It supports single disk games with sides A & B, but not games with multiple disks. So, if a game has 2 disks, Sides A-D, then it wouldn't be supported.

I only recommend copying the f.map and fdsbios.bin from files from this zip to your powerpak the other mappers screwed up certain games.  Powerpak automatically "flips sides" unless you have the wrong mapper.  I stated on nintendoage as well as my forum how retarded it is that the NES powerpak comes with mappers that simply don't work when there's perfectly good working mappers out there.

You should wait for my "FDS powerpack" little bit ;D

Cool! Is there a forum post about it somewhere with more information?

Ah, I see, thanks for the clarification.

nice job bunny on the hardware (minus the whole sound thing) not so good on the software or customer service when you order.  I actually ordered the powerpak as well as an NWC repro and gimmick and the nes controller to usb kit.  Well it took forever to get the shit and then when I did the kit didn't work, i think that the ic was no good and he basically told me sorry about your luck.  I took pics and my soldering skills aren't top-top-notch, but they are fuckin' up there.  Basically I said I would never buy anything from him again, and he told me it was my problem too.  Whatever.

Ditto.  He mailed me a completely non working snes powerpak.  It even failed the memory test half the time.  Then I mailed it back and he didn't know who it belonged to even though it had my name on the box I mailed it in.  So the powerpak sat there forever until I complained.  Also he mailed me a cheap memory card to usb adapter that never worked.  It's like the idiot never tests stuff before he ships it out.  I custom build system and not only do I test them I make videos of everything working before I mail it just to prove it's all working.  It's really not that hard to test that everything is working before mailing it out.  Also he is oh-so-sensitive when you say ANYTHING negative about his products or his service.  If he wants no criticism he shouldn't be selling stuff.  I get lots of people saying terrible things about my work even though they've never bought anything from me and they're allowed to hate and tarnish my rep all they want.  Atleast I don't try to suck the worlds d#ck and pleasure everybody there's always going to be people who want to hate just for the sake of hating.  I do think that the snes and nes powerpaks are amazing products the hardware he used is meant to last forever if it's not faulty.  Also his products are well worth the money.  But as I personally told bunnyboy I'd rather pay more money and get service that doesn't suck so hard.

Why did you buy the powerpak if you have a disk system? Is the powerpak better than the real hardware?
If it is, I might as well stop selling them... They're already dirt cheap in Japan because noone wants them (you can get a junky one if you pay for shipping, more or less).
Selling  Japanese games in Sweden since 2011 (as "japanspel").

Well it like anything emulation related.  Yeah It works and it works every time, its just not always perfect and doesn't have perfect compatibility with all games.  Actually the powerpak was a BIG influence on me getting a Famicom Disk System.  I really prefer real hardware 9 times out of 10.  I will tell you this I was a little bummed out when my Disk System didn't work as well as the Powerpak.  But that's life.  It is cool for a backup or if you are going anywhere and want to bring a bunch of games, but seriously, I have almost 600 NES games, 20 Famicom games, and 3 Disk System Games, and for the most part my powerpak goes unused.  Granted it has features like 5 Game Genie codes at a time, and save/load states but that is truely cheating.  I don't mind the genie but if I have save states available I will without fail use them so it is just better for me to not use them.  It is a fun way to test a game before you buy it and play it on real hardware.  But by no means is it "The Death of NES/Famicom Collecting/Playing"  It won't replace the real thing, good, bad or indifferent.

Long winded as always, but hoped I helped shed some light for a fellow NES/FC'er! ;)
