sync strike issues (RGB cables)

As of yesterday I have three RGB capable consoles, a SFC, a model 1 Genesis and a PS2 which I hook up to my hdtv using a snyc strike and gbs-8200.

Problem is, when I use my Super Famicom it works beautifully and I get a very nice and clear picture, but when I use my PS2 or Genesis on the exact same setup... all I hear is distorted audio. 98% of the time the GBS will display "No signal" but 2% it will display the correct picture except scrambled. Are the cables I ordered just bad or is it an issue with my snyc strike?

How do you power the sync strike ? Did you try to push "auto" button on the gbs ? (push for 5 secondes then release)

I use it using the power from scart cable option. I did, and it still didn't work. It isn't the GBS though because that works fine with both my Video Game Jockey and my Sync Strike +SFC, so the problem is either two bad cables or a sync strike issue.

You can try to power the sync strike using external 5v option. A simple way to do that is to use the power cable delivered with the gbs, if gbs is already powered with a 5v psu.

I have just tried my megadrive with my sync strike/gbs setup and sync strike powered with 5v scart option, it didn't work.

Is there anywhere on the board I can tap to get 5V? I'm using an AC adapter for input so I can't use the same source.

On the gbs, just near of the jack where you plug the ac adapter, there is a two pins white socket where you can take 5v and ground signals, and wire it to the sync strike.

That's an input not an output

Why is it it would work for my SFC and not the other two anyway? They're all 5V

If you are using a 5v ac adapter for the gbs, you can use the socket near as a 5v output for the sync strike. That's the way I do and it works perfectly.







Anyway, I don't know why it doesn't work via the scart socket, a lot of my consoles have 5v on scart, only my super nintendo works this way.

I tried it your way. It worked far batter, but I did have a vertical distortion and the sound still sounded very distorted. I'm guessing it's just a bad connection. Maybe I need to strip the wires so they go in further?

You can try that, Yes. Also, I often have to change settings of the gbs to obtain a good picture on screen, you can try it if you haven't yet.

I don't think it's a syncstrike issue as it works great with your sfc.

How tight should the power source wires be? They just come right out and i've tightened the screws as tight as they'll go.

Tighten the screws until wires stay in place, that's enough.

Did. Apparently it's an issue with the genesis itself and goodwill lied to me about it testing out good.

I had issues with audio sounds in my scart cables I just ended up separating the audio cables from the scart male plug to rca to 3.5 cable and added a headphone jack to the back of my saturn but you may just want to pickup a better set of scart cables that has better grounding

EDIT I forgot your using a sync strike so above mod may need to be adjusted

Also I'm pretty sure the Geny does not need to have sync cleaned I know the sync strike is meant to work with all systems but it may have an issue of some sort if you happen to have a male scart plug you could get your hands on you can wire it up to the left side of the gbs its what I did for my saturn its only like 4 wires

So that may be your issue I believe both PS1/2 and SNES need their Sync cleaned while all Sega stuff has its own sync on composite so its good to go with without the sync strike

Arcade Forge really need to start putting male VGA ends on their boards all those male to male gender changers are ridiculous I know its not your fault it just bothers me the SLG me and this guy over on SRK forms developed ...well mostly him but I had input  we used male VGA on one side and female VGA on the other much easier setup

I tried listening to the audio using headphones in the port on the front and I got the same audio distortion and the rf port didn't work at all. I just think the genesis I bought is a piece of crap.
