Quick question: Does Tobidase Daisakusen (3D World Runner) use the FDS enhanced sound? Tried it a few moments ago and sounds a little different than the US version.

I'm not sure, because I'm not sure if my Famicom supports the FDS synth...

I'd like to know this too so I can figure out if I'm actually hearing the FDS synth or not..

Can you hear the main theme music from the game?
Also, are the glitches on the right side of the screen normal? (kind of like the SMB3 status bar glitch)

As far as I know, mine sounds exactly like the ROM, but maybe not as much bass...probably because my TV doesn't have great speakers and my laptop does.  And I haven't noticed any glitches or skips on the screen...
...but when you say "main theme" music.. what exactly do you mean?  I can hear all the music when I actually play the game, but if there's supposed to music on the title screen (Side A) then I'm not getting anything :-\

The title screen is silent, need not to worry :).

Awesome!  My FDS synth works!!  My A/V Mod doesn't suck!!  I guess that guy does know what he's doing :P

Before anyone assaults me for 'digging up a dead thread', I wanted to do a couple things:

First, I want to ask if there have been any revelations on 3-D system games. I suspect there are at least a few more. I am trying to collect them all, but only have a few.

Second, I want to point out that the Worldrunner 3-D system game is "JJ: Tobidase Daisakusen II" a.k.a. "Jumping Jack".

Those 'Tobidase Daisakusen' glasses are super-neat! I used to have a pair of prescription 3-D red & blues, but I cracked the blue lens and nowadays it is impossible to find anybody stateside who can make coloured glass. I'd fancy another set if I could find a maker that can produce them (in glass, not plastic).

Lastly, a somewhat interesting bit: I was digging through some old Commodore Amiga stuff and I found a boxed set of 3-D glasses labeled 'X-Specs', and upon inspecting the system I noted that it looked strikingly like the F3D System, all the way down to the headband, but without the Nintendo branding.

Thus, I took the glasses and the controller box, and inspected them closer. They are identical! This means that if you see a pair of X-Specs, you can use the glasses with your F3D module. The X-Specs module is wired for the Amiga's DE-9 controller port, instead of being DA15, but the glasses are unmodified. My guess is that the company that made them, now long defunct, simply imported used F3D glasses and cleaned the logos off with paint-remover, then rewired the module boxes and sold them as their own product.

There is an X-Specs site here: http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=769 , for those curious about them. I don't even remember if I ever had any Amiga software that used them, but I must have at one time or another, else I probably wouldn't have owned them. Talk about digging up the past! It's been fifteen years or more since I've used my A4000. :)

The point is, if you are looking for a second pair of glasses for your F3D, you can put "X-Specs" in your eBay watchlist, as you can probably pick up a pair for a tidy bit less than the normal set.

I am also having a technical hitch with my sets... Both seem to work flawlessly with my copy of '3-D Hot Rally', which is an original disk, but when I try to use them for 'Falsion', a pirate disk, the foreground (ship) image is doubled. This happens with both sets of glasses and makes it impossible to enjoy the game. Has anybody else run into this with 'Falsion', or am I the only one?

Is this likely to be a fault on the disk, because it is a pirate, and has some kind of error, or is it possible that both sets of glasses are misaligned somehow, or aren't synching properly? I need some more 3-D games to test it out and 'JJ' is my next pick, as I don't yet own it. I would like to buy another 'Falsion' disk--an original this time-- to see if it makes any difference.

If anybody has spares of any 3-D games, I would like to pick some of them up. To me, it is by far the most amazing accessory for the Famicom and I wish that Nintendo has the gusto to make better use of it. Unfortunately, like the Robot, they simply let it fizzle.

On that subject, I know that outside Nippon, the Robot (R.O.B.) has only two games. Were there ever any other titles for it in Nippon for the Famicom, or were any planned? It might be cool to design a new Robot game. We could do with some new #-D games as well... :)

I'm not sure if any were planned, but the Family Robot had just as many games as R.O.B did.  It's hard to even call them two different things, since the only thing that's different about them is their cosmetic appearance.

Hmm...

So Highway Star uses the 3D System and was released on 08/07/1987.  However, the 3D System wasn't released until 10/21/1987.  Both release dates can be confirmed (in Family Computer 1983 - 1994 and elsewhere).

Doubt that means anything, just thought I'd mention it.

Figured I'd resurrect this thread as it has relevant information in it...

Regarding Tobidase Daisakusen, someone posted pics of the official glasses that were made available for it at the time:

I have the game and want to test it out in 3D mode, and was thinking I'll pick up some cheap red/blue glasses from eBay. What strikes me as odd though, is that the standard has always been to have the red lens on the left whereas in the pictures of the official Tobidase Daisakusen glasses, they show the red lens to be on the right.

So will I need to modify some cheap red/blue glasses to suit by switching the red/blue lenses around or will it still work regardless? Any thoughts?

I think you'd have to swap the red/blue lenses on a cheap-o pair in order to match the official glasses.

Frank_fjs

Thanks.

Well I ordered a pair of cheap-o glasses and will try both ways and report back here with my findings.

The "Astro Fang" game is very similar to Rad Racer, and it says "3D" on the box, but I don't think this game actually has any 3d functionality...  The usual methods for turning on 3D don't do anything.
GRRR!

Just to follow up on the matter of which side the red/blue lens goes in, Nintendo did indeed go against the standard of red left, blue right.

Of course the cheap-o 3D glasses I ordered from Hong Kong are non reversible, really should have paid attention to that before ordering, so I had to wear them upside down to test. The game (Tobidase Daisakusen - fun game but I prefer it in non-3D mode due to the loss of colour when in 3D mode) does indeed require the red lens to cover the right eye for the proper 3D effect.

You will notice the same thing on the US 3D glasses too, in that the lenses are reversed so that the red lens covers the right eye.

So yeah, if you plan on playing some Nintendo 3D games that use the anaglyphic glasses, make sure you grab an official pair or reverse the lenses on a cheap pair.

The US version of Rad Racer included a pair of glasses made from the same plastic material as the black sleeves the games came in (is that what's pictured here?), soft, thin plastic, not cardboard?:

When I ordered a replacement for $2.00 from Nintendo's replacement catalog (USA), they actually sent me this:

I was actually sort of upset with that and wanted the thin plastic ones that came inside the Rad Racer box from Toys R Us! It was tough to find evidence of the packaged 3D glasses even existing.
