I can second every single word of the post above.
Age has to do a lot with how we perceive video games. I was much better back then than I am now, because I had (much) more time and no internet help available.

As a kid with no responsibilities and no Internet, you really have all the time in the world for stuff like that. And for the most of us mortals who didn't have rich parents, we had very few games (no emulators!) and so we were eager to make the most out of them.

This is a fact (and one I noted recently when it came to beating games like Battletoads as a kid).

Though I still prefer games that I can play for a few minutes and have fun as opposed to the movie marathon games that get put out now that leave me feeling like I did nothing engaging.

nintendodork

Nintendo Color TV-Game 15 8)  More like tested it I suppose.  Does this thing have a computer player option?  I can't figure out the console menu..and from what I've seen, it doesn't. ???
I like to glitch old VHS tapes and turn them into visuals for live music events. Check out what I'm working on - www.instagram.com/tylerisneat

I love the original lolo 1, but when my cousin came over to play it with me, all he wants to do, is look on the internet for the answers. I said to him, "You're supposed to play the game, not watch it, then just follow the instructions.

Oh, and I just played Adventure Island II!
Sorry folks.

I can understand using the internet for some levels on Lolo 2 or 3, but Lolo 1 is rather easy.  They're all great games IMO, but having the ability to cheat with a walkthrough kills it for modern gamers (suggesting someone that grew up with the NES might have more willpower).

I've only ever played Adventure Island 1, but didn't like it much.  I've considered buying the SNES game though.

And to add to the thread...the last game I played before starting OoT was Smart Ball for SNES.  I loved the game as a kid (it was one I had to go to my friends house to play), yet unfortunately, it turned out to be much simpler than I recalled.  Was cheap at a Play'n'Trade, so it was still worth the nostalgia trip.

Yeah, he was a wimp. As soon as he saw the level, he'd just say, "Looks too hard. Let's get on Youtube!"

The Super Adventure Island is poop if you ask me. It's just not as good as Adventure Island II. I don't really like 1 either, but you should consider 2, and 3.
Sorry folks.

Thanks for the warning.  I'll look for 2 or 3 in that case.  Obviously I don't hate Adventure Island 1 either, or I probably wouldn't be interested in trying another one.  It just feels like it's missing something.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Loving it so far, nostalgic yet introduces enough new elements to make it a solid stand alone game.

Same as son ov hades NSMBW.  I got to rent it for free.  It feels the most like SMW if I'm going to compare it to any of them, It plays like SMB 1 & 3, SMW 1 & 2 & even yoshis story.  You get different colored yoshis again ;D and the switches are back.

The control feels a bit too stiff and unreactive for a mario game though... (I'm on World 5)
