Beautiful Mark III collection! I notice a copy of Kenseiden in there, which is possibly my favorite Master System game. I don't even have a Mark III (just an SMS) but I was considering getting a CIB copy of the Japanese version just since I love the game so much. Definitely give it a chance if you haven't already.

Thanks, it's a really old pic. Have picked up a lot more games since, but yeah I had Kenseiden on my original US SMS so I had to track it down for the ol' Mark III. Really liked it back then too, especially for the "atmosphere" of the game. I also played a ton of wonderboy in monsterland, golvellius, shinobi, double dragon, vigilante, black belt, etc....

One good thing about Mark III games, not a whole not of demand for them so prices haven't gone through the roof like on other platforms. There are also only a very few number of games that fetch triple digits. One of them is the japanese version of Bomber Raid. That's the only one I know of that averages 100-200 bucks a pop. Fortunately everything else is very reasonably priced.

Nightstar699

Yeah, the atmosphere is among my favorite things about Kenseiden. Have you added a copy of Makai Retsuden (Japanese version of Kung Fu Kid) to your collection since that picture? Or maybe it's there and I'm just missing it, but that's another one of my favorite SMS games. I do notice Mark III games are reasonably priced, it's just the systems themselves that seem a bit pricey to acquire.

I am a big Nintendo fan! especially GameBoy, N64, SFC, GC. And of course Mario games
I collect SFC/N64 mainly. Some rare famicom stuff too. Also miscellaneous video game stuff.

If there was an LP of that Yuzo Koshiro CD I'd be on the hunt  :o

I love the Mark III too. That was the first one I picked up years ago. However I do love the 80s graph look of the SMS box and the idea of FM sound built-in.

.

Couldn't agree more - I like the packaging of the SMS more, but the product design of the Mark III is just top notch, I nearly got a new Mark III, SG-2000 and SG-2000 from Japan-Games when i first started collectong but I passed them up.

Tell you what instantly caught my eye though - the boxed MD Adaptor - I really hope I can find one, even though the Mega Everdrive runs all the games - it just looks perfect sat on top.  Finding a pristine one and a pristine Mega-CD Model 1 though will take some time and cost a fair chunk of bucks, so I'll wait.  I know they can be found cheaply in Japan if you're patient.

Also, found your finds thread on Digit Press from years ago (image search).  Looking at prices from 2006, is, depressing...

@Nightstar699 Yup I have that one. Feels like a mix of Black Belt/HnK, Kung Fu/SpartanX and Yie Ar Kung Fu all mashed up.

@wholesalewatch648 Xbox1 consoles are great for the r0ms.... I've got a modded xbox loaded up. Also Panzer Dragoon Orta is it (?), is pretty cool. Murakamo is pretty fun too. I forget what else I have that are neat exclusives.

@ L___E___T  Another problem with gen 1 mega-cds are the reliability. Such a shame because it's such a cool design.

Tell me about it. The rise in prices due to demand on top of the dollar to yen exchange rate is killer. All the stuff I put off getting back then have nearly doubled. For example I waited on a couple Megadrive shmups. They were about 100 bucks back then... now they're 400-600 bucks! Crazy!! They just steadily shot up with no signs of slowing down. Some of those were in my previous wave and some in this current one yet to be posted.

On a side note... more LDs

The last one I needed

These are kinda special. Live action movies, "The Seven Days War" (80s) and "The Seven Days War 2" (early 90s). Think of Goonies meets Toy Soldiers... really love this movie. Especially the first one.

I've never even watched a LaserDisc, but I can tell you the artwork on them looks magnificent, especially those Twinbee ones.

Well, here's the additions I made lately. After three years spent desiring one, I finally couldn't resist any longer (partially thanks to comments made here by Stealthlurker and P) and I got a PC Engine. The CoreGrafx model (since I really can't stand RF), and it included a free copy of Dungeon Explorer. (Albeit card only)

And then here's the starter games I bought for the thing. I was unable to afford the PCE game of my dreams (Ninja Spirit), but I'll definitely get that in the near future.

Momotarou Katsugeki happened to be factory sealed before I opened and played the hell out of it.

I gotta say, it really is the PCE's equivalent to Ganbare Goemon, and it plays marvelously.  Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't tried it.

That's the main reason I collect LDs these days... the cover art is simply luscious imho.

Congrats on the PCE! I love that platform. It's like the famicom on steroids. Especially like your picks Youkai Douchuuki, Momotarou (that's the platformer one right?), Samurai Ghost 2 and Agedama. What games are you thinking about next? If you're a shmup fan, you picked the right platorm.  :)

The first time I heard about a PC-Engine was on a long flight from Asia to the States in the late 80s. I happened to sit next to another kid with a gameboy (it had just come out). We ended up playing versus Tetris for the 18+ hr flight. We also talked about games in general too. I told him I was a big fan of the Family Computer. Well this kid's family had just left Japan....  so he was telling me that if you like Family Computer, you've got to check out PC-Engine. It wasn't until about the mid 90s I got my first taste of a PC-Engine game. Picked up Dracula X second hand from a local videogame shop for about 50 bucks. Luckily japanese discs work just fine on a US Turbo Duo.

Man, I wish I had such a neat story for how I got into PCE. For me it's as simple as that I viewed footage of Ninja Spirit years ago, and I was just dying to play it. But alas, Famicom stuff kept getting in the way. I envy you for getting to enjoy these games even back when they were new. I mean, without the convenience of online import stores, I could only imagine how cool it must have felt to have all these Japanese consoles, practically unobtainable to the average gamer at that time. I wonder if the kid you were sat next to also retains his love for import gaming to this day.

Yes sir, Momotaro Katsugeki is the platformer one! I think it very well might be the only Momotaro platformer outside of the Game Boy titles... which is a damn shame, because it's so much fun. I'd consider it my favorite PCE game thus far. Have you played Makai Prince Dorabochan? That's another one I've already fallen in love with, it reminds me so much of a Konami title. Mainly Kid Dracula (obviously) but with a little Gradius thrown in, what with the Moai heads everywhere, and all.

As for which games I'm thinking about next, there's tons I have in mind. In fact, I think for the next few months I'm going to focus on collecting nothing but PC Engine to knock out as many of these titles as possible... obviously Ninja Spirit is number one on my wanted list, but there's also Ninja Ryukenden, Gunhed, Hanata-Kadaka, Final Soldier, Splatterhouse, the Bonk games, Shubibinman 2 (not quite sure if I want the first one), the Takahashi Meijin game, SonSon II, Galaga 88, Bomberman original & 94, Shinobi (I already have the Master System version, but this seems to be quite a different experience), Salamander, Gradius, Parodius, Detana Twinbee, Street Fighter II (in which case I'd obviously need to get the 6-button controller, but that's fine), Legendary Axe I and II, Zipang, and lots others. If you have any other recommendations I might not have heard of, please feel free to let me know, because I think it's apparent that our taste in games is very much alike.

I'm pretty sure you're right about it being the only platformer outside of the GB. Which is a shame... I would have really loved one on the SFC at least. I have Dorabochan but truthfully I haven't put much time into it at all. Whenever I see the PCE cover I get it confused with the SFC/SNES version and think that it's an RPG... so I pass on playing it.

Ninja Gaiden on the PCE isn't that great imho, so I would probably put it lower on the list and wait for a really good deal. I think it's one of the games that fetches a little more than the average title too.

Off the top of my head in terms of HuCard games....

legend of hero tonma
hana taka daka
soldier blade
pc denjin
coryoon
aoi blink
tatsujin
magical chase
aero blasters
kato & ken
jacky chan

Getting into a new platform is really exciting. Discovering all sorts of titles new to you is a big part of the fun imho.  :)

Ah game and watch... had a few as kid. That's a whole other rarified world of collecting I have yet to travel down.

More stuff from "the haul"

I'm a bit of a Hudson nut...

leather Hudson belt bag

notebook and pencil board.... was a pleasant surprise to find Mr Hudson/Adventure Island, Takahashi Meijin's autograph in the notebook!!

another pencil board and a mousepad

mini soundtrack CD

bomberman mask

bomberman binoculars!!

8-bit famicom era hudson coin/token

large bomberman coin bank

My word! Beautiful Bomberman merch, Stealth. I think the notebook and pen have to be my favorite parts. Who's that on the back of the Hudson Soft coin, by the way? Can't recall ever seeing that character in a game.

Also, just wondering, do you collect US/PAL Master System stuff at all? I ask because I've been playing my SMS lately, and man so many of its best games were left to Western exclusivity, despite Japanese development.

My best guess is that the back has the "Lotteria" logo which I believe is a fast food chain whose parent company is Lotte. Lotte and Lotteria have had all sorts of cutesy animal mascots over the years. So I'm guessing it was some collaboration between Lotte and Hudson. What drew my attention though was the writing above that animal/character that translates to "famicom world".... hmmmmm

I currently don't actively collect US / EU / South American SMS games but I still have the ones I had from childhood. I've also picked up a few over the years. Yeah, as much as I prefer to collect japanese import these days... if you really want the good stuff for SMS you do have to look at other regions. One of the few times Japan got shafted big time haha.

Another path for SMS titles are the custom works where people created custom SMS games from Game Gear titles. In some regions, titles that were only Game Gear games were released as SMS titles in South America. However there are some titles that were strictly GG everywhere in the world, but hobbyists tweaked it to work on an SMS.

At this time, I'd simply be fine with something like a Tototek SMS to Mark III adapter and an SMS Everdrive.... unfortunately those $15 Tototek adapters are long out of stock and hard to find (at least when I tried to find one).

a bit more processing...

forgot about this guy yesterday

nothing fancy, filled in some gaps in the ol' PC-Engine collection

Creepy! Based on the very old custom of "Hyaku Monogatari" (100 ghost stories).... light a bunch of candles, tell a ghost story, blow a candle out...  rinse and repeat until all candles are out.
