Thanks, Stealth! I knew you'd like some of those. I've grown to love the PCE version of Shinobi. Despite its setbacks (the lack of stage 2 + no melee attacks) I love how close it feels, looks, and sounds to the arcade version. And that its stage 4-2 doesn't feature the ridiculous jumps of the Master System version. All things considered, I'd say the PCE and SMS versions are tied.

Yeah, I snatched that up right away! I don't know if this is common, but it also came with a guide/manual for a Satellaview, this one in fact.

Looks like you had a lot of fun in Japan Jess!  :) Being able to shop for stuff in person must have been an absolute joy.

By the way, are you really located in Korea? I've been curious as to how to purchase games from Korea online... especially old PC games.

Jeez, great finds to you all. I'm jealous of that Shadow Dancer, L___E___T. That's the last Shinobi game I need to get, and no way in hell I'd settle for a US copy. (Where the boxart is hideous). I also like that Godzilla, Stealthlurker. Speaking of which I just recently missed the chance to get Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen on SFC, ugh. Been looking for that one forever. But here's what I did recently manage to acquire, anyway...

I'm glad to finally have Hyperstone Heist back - my favorite Turtles game. I always preferred it to Turtles In Time.

Pop'n twinbee... love that game. First time I played it was with my SNES/SFC copier unit back in the 90s. Told myself I'd get the real cart one day. Godzilla on SFC... I recall 2, one wasn't too hot and the other was great. I think the good one is the one with mothra on the cover I believe?

Hyper Stone Heist, I forget... was that a western exclusive?

Nightstar699

Awesome! My first Twinbee experience (as is the case with many here, I'm guessing) was playing the original on a pirate multicart... since then I've grown to love the later installments. Yep, the one with Mothra on the cover is Kaijuu Daikessen, which was a traditional one-on-one fighting game. The other was Super Godzilla which I believe played like a strategy game of sorts? I dunno, not the type of game I'd be into.

Hyperstone Heist was not a Western-exclusive, it was on JPN Mega Drive as "Return of Shredder", I believe. But just as is the case with Castlevania Bloodlines, and Contra Hard Corps, the Japanese version is much, much more expensive. (In fact, a lot of Genesis/Mega Drive games are like that, even non-Konami titles... I guess it goes to show how poorly the Mega Drive sold in its native Japan.)

Always wanted a 1CHIP Super Famicom. ;D
I got this a while back but I only got to open it and make sure it was an 1CHIP board (and to clean it) now. But I actually knew it was an 1CHIP all along, because it had the "Ring of Great Success" under the expansion port cover http://kyorune.com/modding/article.php?id=13.

L___E___T

I read the link - but what are the main advantages of the smaller board?

@Nightstar I really like Shadow Dancer, it feels like a true successor to Shinobi and I like the NES style gameplay.  At the time it paled in comparison to The Super Shinobi, because that had all the atmosphere, but to go back to them now I would rather pick up Shadow Dancer for a day than The Super Shinobi.  It's got a bit of a Neo-Geo vibe going on too dare I say.

I too picked up a SNES years back again just for Pop 'N' Twinbee - it was a flagship title for my friends and I back then and it still remains a great demo title for what the SFC does best in my opinion.  It plays on all the traits the SNES does best - colour range, music composition (esp. channels), cutesy anime style graphics and animation and swift but not fast (or slow) gameplay.

Out of the two systems, I may be controversial here but I think that the MegaDrive is the more capable machine and has aged the best.  A slew of SFC games seem to be stuck inbetween 8 bit strengths and 32-bit strengths and their appeal can be lost, while the MegaDrive has a charm all of its own that you can't really find anywhere else.  That music, the sprites and the pace of it all is more successful than the SFC right now, but back then the lack of colours and Mode 7 really stood out when you compared the two systems side by side.

SFC still has better games selection overall in total.
