Nintendo Co., Ltd. had a sense of humor when they created the Famicom Disk System. Anyone who’s ever owned the system knows that when it’s turned on, but no game has been inserted, Mario and Luigi are ready to remind you to “Please Set Disk Card,” otherwise turn the damn thing off. Ah yes, Nintendo playing the role of parent…and power-saving environmentalist?
Here are a few of the dramatic moments in the Mario and Luigi saga:
Luigi sneaks in to turn off the Nintendo sign.
Oops, Mario has caught Luigi red-handed.
Mario turns the Nintendo sign back on.
Mario confronts Luigi.
Mario chases Luigi.
And that’s how it unfolds. The darn Disk System will endlessly play this little scene, with minor variations, until you insert a disk or shut off the system.
